I awoke early this morning to the sounds of strong winds against my house and some crows upon my roof. Perhaps there was magick afoot. It was just before the darkness fully gave way to the grey skies splashed with color from the changing tide of autumn. The beckoning gusts called me fourth and I answered. After settling in with some candlelight and incense, I listened. I listened to the rush of air through the trees. I was soothed by the sounds of the windchimes. I freely released the ties that clung to me from a night’s deep sleep. I felt the breath of life around me. While I was listening to the silent space between the breezes, I was gently held in the stillness between each breath of nature. Yes. There is magick afoot this morning and I am listening.
Have you ever closed your eyes with your face raised to the sky, arms extended and your heart open wide? Have you willingly let go of all preconceived notions and expectations and received the chance gift of a sacred whisper upon the wind? Have you ever given yourself the space and permission to fully let go and let your sorrow, anger, fear, and even joy and happiness to be given to the winds? It is quite an experience to do so. You see, they say that the winds speak to us. There are whispers that carried on the winds. It is the wise words of all those that came before us that added their wise words to the wind. Perhaps you may be able to hear such whispers. Sometimes, the winds may be strong enough to give you a direct message or sign.
In these early days of October, I ask that you listen to the winds. Listen to what is trying to be said to you. Let go of everything that you think you know and open up to the changing tides and the dying breath of this season’s energy. Early autumn brings change. The leaves are changing. The temperatures are changing. The light and the length of the days are changing. Plants are dying to be reborn in the distant spring. Others grow fallow in the fields and gardens. What is changing in your life? What cycles are ending for you? What are you ready to let go of? What is ready to end? The month of October evokes images and comforting memories of apple picking and pumpkins, bright foliage and warm cider. It can even bring forward strong feelings of sadness that summer has ended and the distress that winter and snow will soon be on its way. But have you thought about what October can invoke? What are the spiritual messages of October? What insight and energy do you want to call forth to gain a deeper understanding of where you are at this moment? It is the time of change. Leaving the full life of summer behind us, we are now slowing down and preparing to enter the death of the cycle. We too, can call upon this energy to help us release what no longer serves us. We too, can prepare our inner landscapes for the winter ahead by reflecting on what is beautiful and full in our lives and what of our patterns and habits have overstayed their welcome. We can do this by opening ourselves up and listening to what the truthful winds are telling us.
In meditation, go to a place that brings clarity. Try to envision a mountaintop or the top of a rolling hillside. Maybe you can walk along the crossroads to a place where the land meets the sea and sky. Feel the winds blow around you, through you. Open your heart. What do you feel? What do you sense? Put aside for a moment what you think you know. Simply allow the winds to talk to you, hold you, clear you. What comes up in this willing exchange? Much like the vegetation in the fields, what is ready to be harvested? What are the seeds for spring? What is turning fallow? What needs to be uprooted? Remember to allow these visions to come. Try not to analyze them as they are being offered. Simply allow what comes forward to come forward. There is wisdom to be gained. When the experience is complete, thank the winds and your guides and return to hold those messages as you reflect.
The winds have much to say to us. There is wisdom to be found through them and within ourselves. I hope you offer yourself the gift of the chance to listen to both.
Be well today. May the magick that is afoot inspire you to listen to these special winds.
